The Dennis Hisardut system is comprised of several main elements:

JUDO

Judo, which is translated as the "gentle way", teaches the principle of flexibility in the application of technique. This is the flexible or efficient use of balance, leverage, and movement in the performance of Judo throws and other skills. Skill, technique and timing, rather than the use of brute strength, are the essential ingredients for success in Judo. For example, in Judo classes you may learn how to give way, rather than use force, to overcome a stronger opponent.

Kodokan Judo comes  from the fighting system of feudal Japan. Founded in 1882 by Dr. Jigaro Kano. Judo is a refinement of the ancient martial art of Jujutsu. Dr. Kano, President of the University of Education, Tokyo, studied these ancient forms and integrated what he considered to be the best of their techniques into what is now the modern sport of Judo.

Judo was introduced into the Olympic Games in 1964 and is practiced by millions of people throughout the world today.

Judo is best known for it's spectacular throwing techniques but also involves considerable grappling on the ground utilizing specialized pins, control holds, arm locks, and Judo choking techniques. Judo emphasizes safety, and full physical activity for top conditioning.

Judo develops self-discipline and respect for oneself and others. Judo provides the means for learning self-confidence, concentration, and leadership skills, as well as physical coordination, power, and flexibility. It develops complete body control, fine balance, and fast reflexive action. Above all, it develops a sharp reacting mind well-coordinated with the same kind of body. Judo training gives a person an effective self-defense system if the need arises. Judo is often a part of the training done by athletes preparing for MMA matches.

The principles of Judo, such as "Maximum Efficiency" and "Mutual Welfare and Benefit", can also be used in our dealings with others in life. The ultimate goal in Judo is to develop oneself to the maximum extent possible, always striving for perfection, so that you can contribute something of value to the world.

KYOKUSHIN KARATE

"Kyokushin" means "Ultimate Truth". Kyokushin Karate was born in the determination for the pursuit of ultimate truth of mind, technique, and body.

Karate is developed over a thousand years ago not only as a form of unarmed combat but as a way to discipline the body in order to improve the spirit. By practicing Karate, one can increase his/her alertness, self-awareness and self-confidence by conditioning the body as improving speed, strength, and co-ordination. It is to achieve the unity of body and spirit.

Kyokushin Karate has been know as "The strongest karate", not only because of the incredible feats of strength and endurance that Founder Masutatsu Oyama performed, but also because of the rigorous requirements of the training and tournaments.

The founder, Sosai Masu Oyama, often said that the difference between sports and the Budo Way is the path of self-discipline. Sports can always be associated with a game in some form or another where people compete for leisure, money, or fame. The Budo way is never these since it was developed from harsh-living situations where one must fight for their life in the midst of human suffering and pain - this can either be of the mental or physical kind. The Budo Way is this challenge in life itself. Kyokushin Karate was founded by a man who was dedicated to the Budo Way.

Dr. Dennis Hanover often says - "what we practice is not a sport, it is real life!"

Revered Masutatsu Oyama, also known as Mas Oyama, was an unparalleled karate master who founded Kyokushinkai, arguably the first and most influential style of full contact karate. Sosai had a remarkable and relevant philosophy not only on the martial arts, but also on how to conduct yourself in your every day life adopting core values such as:

  • Integrity
  • Intelligence
  • Intensity
  • Focus
  • Respect

The Kyokushinkai spirit is to keep ones head low (modesty), eye high (ambitious), reserved in speech (control ones language), kind in heart (strength in character) and serve other people with fidal piety (serving others well). This is the spirit of Mas Oyama and these are some of the principles of Dennis Hisardut.

JU-JITSU

Ju-Jitsu is a martial art which reflects the movements of the attacker back upon him or her. It has been practiced in Japan since the sixteenth century, although Ju-Jitsu has its origins in Chinese martial arts. Ju-Jitsu uses a series of joint locks, small weaponry, and defensive tactics in combination with conserved energy to neutralize an attacker. Many other martial arts such as Judo and Aikido have their roots in Ju-Jitsu.

The word “Ju-Jitsu” means the practice of gentleness, and in addition to learning the moves associated with Ju-Jitsu, students also make changes in their characters. Ju-Jitsu is supposed to focus and calm the students, with the aim of making them better martial artists and more refined individuals as well. The movements of Ju-Jitsu are efficient, flowing, and circular, and it is a distinctly beautiful martial art to watch. Ju-Jitsu is also usually practiced within a very small circle, and many Jujitsu moves have been refined for close quarters fighting.

Ju-Jitsu reached its heyday during the Tokugawa Shogunate, when weapons were forbidden to most Japanese citizens. Ju-Jitsu incorporates joint locking and arresting movements which are extremely useful in hand to hand combat where neither warrior has a weapon. When used correctly, it is also possible to disarm with a joint lock. Grappling, take downs, throws, and strangulation also play a role in Ju-Jitsu.

KRAV MAGA

Originally developed as a military self-defense and fighting system for the Israeli Defense Forces, Krav Maga is derived from a combination of techniques sourced from other well known martial arts and is known for its focus on real-world situations. The original concept was to take the most effective and practical techniques and standardize them so that they could be taught quickly.

Alongside proving to be effective, Krav Maga relies heavily on instinct and the ability to make decisions while under stress. Some of the most used techniques in Krav Maga include striking, take-downs and throws, ground work, escapes from holds, and empty-hand weapon defenses.
